Katy Hayward – XMAS – Come Fly With Me Fantail

Katy Hayward Come Fly With Me Piwaiwaka Fantail Christmas Decoration

A Christmas decoration featuring a pair of pīwaiwaka | fantail carrying banners of mānuka.

Come Fly With Me shows two pīwaiwaka mid-dance, wings and tail feathers spread as they swoop with mānuka banners between them. The pose captures the way fantails move: quick, restless and rarely still.

The drawing comes from Northland artist Katy Hayward’s aroha | love of bushwalks with her family, and the pīwaiwaka that follow them along the track, darting and chasing after her daughter.
