Seventeen to 19-gram espresso baskets are the versatile industry workhorses, best suited for balanced medium roasts and versatile daily coffees. The filter basket is the perforated stainless steel cup that sits inside your portafilter and holds the ground coffee. Pullman Espresso Accessories build theirs with precision cut holes and a ridgeless wall, so water passes through the puck more uniformly. Less channeling means a more even extraction, and more of the flavour reaches the cup.

Swapping a stock basket for a precision one is a low cost upgrade with a clear effect. Independent testing by the Australian Coffee Science Lab recorded a 0.1% lift in TDS and a 0.2% lift in overall extraction. For lighter, modern roasts that gain rose to 0.5%. Tasters noted better clarity and balance, with improvements in acidity, sweetness and finish.
